For Jarrod and his family in Hillsboro, New Hampshire, outdoor hockey has always been more than just a winter activity. It’s been a way to bring generations together.
As a kid, Jarrod decided one winter to flood part of his family’s backyard to make his own rink. He wasn’t sure how his dad would react, but instead of pushing back, his father laced up his skates and joined him on the ice.
That simple backyard rink became more than just a place to play. It became a place where memories were made together.
Years later, as a parent himself, Jarrod found himself wanting to create that same experience for his own kids. After losing his father in 2024, one of their final conversations stayed with him: the idea of investing in a backyard rink. His dad had loved the idea and they had talked about YardRink as the solution.
Fast forward to Fall 2025, Jarrod set up his rink and is watching the magic of outdoor skating come full circle. His 3-year-old is shooting pucks while his 1-year-old is starting to experience the fun of being on the ice. Instead of being stuck inside, his kids are outside every day, active and off screens.
With YardRink, there’s no complicated DIY setup or constant trial and error. Just a simple way to get a rink up and start skating. Looking ahead, Jarrod is already planning to expand his rink as his kids grow, leveling more of his yard so the space can grow right alongside them.
